Theme: Dreams
“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” - Colin Powell
Meeting called to Order
SAA Ramesh Raju, ACB, called the meeting to order. The meeting started with the members introducing themselves to one another and sharing briefly their thought on dreams.
Opening Address by Club President:
Club President Neo Yen Ping opened this chapter meeting by sharing about her personal dreams. When she was younger, she recalls that her dream was to become a singer. As she came to realise that she was not blessed with the voice, she buried that dream and became a ‘boring’ accountant. This was not a career that excited her, and she set on the quest to pursue her new dream, which was to become a top-notch marketer. She waded into the world of marketing by taking baby steps, first by studying marketing, and she even went on to join Toastmasters with the intention of brushing up her communication skills, which is essential to achieve success as a marketer. The story of how she made her personal career dream come to fruition proves that indeed - “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”

Special Presentation - Dreams are Possible
Denny Joseph, ACG, ALB, from Kannur Toastmaster Club (India) who had previously been a member of our club and even served as our club President during 2012-2013, left us awestruck and inspired by the end of his special presentation. His key message was that the most successful people always had a big dream, they pursued that dream with focus, and displayed grit even through challenging times to realise their dream.
He shared with us his 5 key strategies to success: 1) Dream big, 2) Believe in yourself, 3) Take risks, 4) Be shameless, 5) Never quit.
Personal anecdotes that he shared throughout the presentation - such as running the full marathon six times, traveling 130km to and fro to attend Toastmaster chapter meetings in India, and thereafter going on to charter a Toastmasters club 65km away from his home-town and pushing through the challenges to keep it going - made us believe that indeed when big dreams meet with iron-willed resolve, “Dreams are Possible.”
Refreshment break - Refresh, Relax and Reconnect
Meeting adjourned for 20 minutes for munching and networking break.
Table Topics
Sandy Lim, CC, ALB, conducted the session wherein members and guests were invited to hone their impromptu speaking skills by speaking up to 2 minutes. She added a creative set-up to the session by inserting the random topics, based on the theme of dreams, into balloons placed around the lectern table. Participants came up to choose a balloon which they pricked to reveal the chit containing their colourful topic relating to rainbows and dreams.
