Theme:    Hope

Meeting called to Order

SAA Sreelakshmi Manoj called the meeting to order. The meeting started with the members introducing themselves to one another and sharing their views on hope and optimism.

Opening Address by Club President:

Club President Neo Yen Ping reiterated and reinforced the theme of the day with a recollection of the movie ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ (1994) which was based on the inspirational story narrated by Stephen Hawking. The key message in the movie translates to hope, and having direction in life. Importantly, it is about not giving up hope and effort even in the face of adversity.

Word of The Day

John Liew, DTM, introduced a very short, simple but apt Word of The Day: ‘up’. A very common word but extremely appropriate to the theme of the day, hope. When we have hope, our spirit seems to soar and we feel ‘up’. Members and guests were encouraged to use this word in their speech.
