“Life is really simple. But we choose to make it complicated.”. – Confucius

Meeting called to Order
SAA Dave Lam called the meeting to order. The meeting started with an icebreaker session where members introduced themselves to one another and shared their views about the Theme of the day.

Programme for the day
Thereafter, the Toastmaster of the day Rampreet Sandhu, EC2, introduced the role holders and their responsibilities. For the benefit of the guests and new members she shared the sequence of events.

Opening address by Acting Club President
Club President, Neo Yen Ping, ACS, ALB, shared the opening address. In the spirit of the Lunar New Year celebrations which adorned this special themed chapter meeting, she shared that doing spring cleaning before Chinese New Year has always been a common tradition. Other than the obkvious benefit of beautifying and creating the ambience, spring cleaning is also about going back to simplicity. When we declutter and get rid of what is unnecessary, we can be more effective and see more clearly, thus keeping the focus on what is truly necessary and meaningful to us. Making progress in our Toastmasters journey is also simple. We need to focus on the basics – attending the chapter meetings, preparing and delivering speeches, and taking up roles, by doing these over time we will see the progress we have made.

Word of the Day
Language Evaluator Eric Tan, PI5, EL3, introduced the word of the day “Present” and gave examples to illustrate the different meanings this word takes on in various contexts. He encouraged members to incorporate this word in our speeches through the rest of the meeting.

Language Evaluation

Language Evaluator Eric Tan, PI5, DL3, conducted his evaluation with a refreshing twist. Other than just pointing out the good usage of English and suggesting the areas where members could have said it better, he also took the opportunity to educate us on the various rhetorical devices which enhance and elevate speeches, some of which we may already be incorporating in our speeches without being aware of them.
